چکیده

Langerhans' cells were studied in the epidermis of two patients with active Beh,et' s disease and compared with those in two normal controls. Ultrastructural morphology and the percentage of Langerhans' cells found were similar in patients' (1.88%o) and the control epidermis (1.79%). The density of Langerhans' cells in adjacent sites of the same epidermis was not homogeneous, being in the range of 0-8-2-8% in Behget's disease and 0-6-4% in the controls. In the controls, Langerhans' cells were distributed unevenly. Some were located near the basal layer of the epidermis while the rest were in the mid and upper layers. In Behcet' s disease most Langerhans' cells were in the mid-epidermis, but some were imniediately beneath the stratum granulosum. In the Behcet's disease epidermis the area occupied by Langerhans' cells was increased by about 25% and the number of granules found increased by about 44%. It is suggested that in Beh,et's disease the Langerhans' cells are in a more active state.

The Histopathological Changes and Immunohistochemical Findings of Acute, Chronic Nonlupoid and Chronic Lupoid Types of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis

Background & Aims: Dry type localized cutaneous Leishmaniasis due to Leishmania tropica is one of the most prevalent cutaneous parasitic infections in Kerman province. It seems that cellular immune response and the nature of immune inflammatory cells comprising the inflammatory background play a determinant role in this infection. Methods: Skin biopsies of 53 patients with acute(<2 years durati...

Langerhans Cells in Skin Lesions of Leprosy

Background: Langerhans cells are important in the pathogenesis of leprosy.  A recent study reported that these cells were almost absent in the epidermis overlying lepromatous lesions. Objective: To investigate a possible relationship between the number of Langerhans cells and the histopathologic spectrum of lesions in patients with leprosy. Methods: An immunohistochemical staining for S100 prot...

Ia+ murine epidermal Langerhans cells are deficient in surface expression of the class I major histocompatibility complex.

Murine epidermal Langerhans cells were analyzed with fluorescence microscopy and multicolor flow cytometry for the surface expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and class II antigens. Langerhans cells of H-2k haplotype were identified in situ or in epidermal-cell suspensions by their surface expression of the MHC class II determinants I-Ak and I-Ek. More than 90% of class...

Delivery of Epidermal Neural Crest Stem Cells (EPI-NCSC) to hippocamp in Alzheimer\'s Disease Rat Model

Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by progressive neuronal loss in hippocamp. Epidermal neural crest stem cells (EPI-NCSC) can differentiate into neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of transplanting EPI-NCSC into AD rat model. Methods: Two weeks after induction of AD by injection of Amyloid-β 1-40 into CA1 area of ra...
